OUR INGREDIENTS

we are passionate about using ingredients that are supportive to our bodies' natural functions. we are equally passionate about excluding ingredients that are harmful and damaging to our skin and skin barrier, as well as our hormones and overall health.

the long-term effects of using products that are not compatible with our biology can lead to a host of issues, including inflammation, acne, dullness, discoloration, and pre-mature aging. it can also cause disruptions in our hormone balance.

our biology, chemistry, and hormone health are taken into consideration with every ingredient we choose. while our skin serves as a protective barrier, it is also has the powerful ability to absorb what we put on it. this means that what we put on our skin matters.

OUR SOURCES

we care deeply about partnering with small, organic suppliers from all over the state of Michigan and across the country. we want to know the names and faces behind our sources, as well as their values.

as much as possible, we choose ingredients from regenerative and biodynamic farms because their holistic approach benefits and reinvests into the entire ecosystem in which it's found. conventional plant and animal farming practices deplete and destroy their surrounding environment, leaving people, animals, and the very soil itself without the vital nutrients needed to thrive.

our mission is to bring the most fresh and healthy ingredients possible to our customers, while also ensuring that the environment will continue to be healthy and fruitful for generations to come.

PRESERVATIVES

one thing that makes Faye and Company different is the fact that we don't use preservatives in our formulations. we skip them because they are often toxic and can disrupt the skin barrier, as well as hormones.

we also believe in creating skincare in small batches so that your products are the freshest they can be, rather than sitting on a shelf for who knows how long! so, because we are preservative-free, most of our products are waterless- using a fat or oil base.

what does this mean for you, the customer? it means our products feel and work differently than typical synthetic products found in stores. adding water to your skincare routine is CRUCIAL to maximizing the benefits of Faye and Company's line. this step is called emulsification, which is where you mix water with fat or oil to create a creamy, milky, hydrating product. whether it's plain water, one of our hydrosols, or aloe vera, adding hydration into your daily skincare routine will ensure your getting the most out of your Faye and Company products.

PUFA's

have you heard of PUFA's? if you're no stranger to the term, then you know that saturated fats are where it's at!! if you're a newbie, let us explain. polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA's) are fats that have a double bond, which makes them more volatile and prone to oxidize (break down) in the presence of heat, light or oxygen. saturated fats have a single bond, making them more stable and less likely to oxidize. almost all seed and nut oils have high concentrations of PUFA's, while things like animal butters and some plant butters are higher in saturated fat, which makes them more stable.

so what's with all the chemistry, and why does it matter? we'll tell you why! the cell walls in our body are composed primarily of fats, including our skin cells. what we eat and put on our skin matters. the more unstable fats (PUFA's) we consume and apply to the skin, the more fragile our skin cells can become.

remember that part about PUFA's oxidizing in the presence of heat, light and oxygen? that means PUFA's break down quite easily, causing free radicals to get released and crash around at the cellular level. this can cause all kinds of damage to our skin cells, including pre-mature or accelerated aging, inflammation, acne, and even skin that sunburns too easily, to name a few.

now we could talk about PUFA's for days, but we'll wrap up with this...while we believe that it's important to avoid excess amounts of PUFA's in our diet and skincare, it's also important to take a balanced approach. we need both forms of fats to function healthfully, but it's important to have the right ratios. our American culture is LOADED with high PUFA oils. from food to skincare to supplements- it's everywhere in excess. our goal is not to eliminate and avoid all PUFA's for all time. our bodies need a certain amount of PUFA's, and they aren't detrimental to eat or put on the skin, so long as it's in the correct proportions. our aim is to bring you products with a healthy ratio of saturated fats and PUFA's. balance is key, friends!

  • HERBS

we choose whole-herb infusions over essential oils for our products as much as possible. while essential oils smell like a dream, they can upset our skin's micro biome, causing breakdown and irritation in the long run, particularly on the face. they also lack many of the medicinal and healing properties that are found in the whole plant. this is why we choose to make all our of face products without essential oils.

  • TALLOW

tallow is rendered beef fat. we use a specific type of fat that surrounds the kidney area, called suet. it's a rich source of saturated fats, vitamins, and minerals that our skin needs to thrive. think of it like a multi-vitamin for your skin. not all tallow is created equal. our suet tallow is always 100% organic and 100% grass-fed. this means the nutrient content can be up to four times higher than convention, grain-fed tallow.

  • BOTANICALS

just like our herb-infused oils, we also make whole-plant infusions with select botanicals and flowers that are packed with nutrients, antioxidants, and phytochemicals which support and enrich our skin to bring out a healthy, vibrant glow. we use botanicals from small, organic farms, which means that they are freshly harvested for maximum potency. we don't use ingredients that have been sitting on shelves for years before getting to us.
